Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey TD launched anti pollutant BlueCat AdBlue
Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey TD, launched anti pollutant “BlueCat AdBlue” on April 18th in Dublin
DUBLIN, Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey TD officially launched Ireland’s first BlueCat AdBlue production facility on Friday, April 18th at 3pm in Browns Barn, City West Bridge, Dublin.
The Minister who was Ireland’s negotiator at Kyoto said that he was delighted to celebrate Ireland’s first AdBlue production facility and support efforts to not only improve the environment but to support companies manufacturing in Ireland.

He pointed out that BlueCat AdBlue addresses two very important issues. “Firstly, limitation of emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx for short) is very important from an environmental and health perspective. NOx can contribute to breathing disorders; acid rain; euthrophication of waterways and climate change.
“Indeed, one of the wider NOx family, nitrous oxide, once commonly used in dentistry as “laughing gas”, is no less than 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a Greenhouse Gas. “

He added that the economic dimension was also important one. What we are celebrating today is the official opening of Ireland’s first AdBlue production facility. Local production means the most cost–effective and timely route to market.
“The opening is also particularly welcome as a vote of confidence in Ireland’s continued role in manufacturing industry and as an import substitution measure.”

Hugh O’Donnell, chairman of the Brockley Group said the new facility will solve the chronic shortage of anti pollutant AdBlue in Ireland. “The new facility means that Irish hauliers and freight companies can now have security of supply. We have an agreement with one of the only three European producers SKW for the raw materials.
BlueCat is available in sizes to suit the largest and smallest firms from bulk delivery, through IBCs (1,000 litre), 200 litre drums and 10 litre cans.

Notes to Editors:
AdBlue is a registered trademark for AUS32 (Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5%). It is a solution of high purity urea in demineralised water (32.5%) used as a supplementary operating fluid (reducing agent) in diesel-powered vehicles using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to improve exhaust emissions.
The high purity urea prill for BlueCat AdBlue is produced in Europe by SKW Piesteritz.
AUS32 is carried onboard the vehicle in a tank separate to the fuel system, and is sprayed into engine exhaust gases in a special catalytic converter.
It is a thus a common misconception that AUS32 is a fuel additive, whereas in actual fact it remains totally separate from the fuel system. When properly circulated into the exhaust gases of an SCR-equipped vehicle, the oxides of nitrogen formed by combustion of diesel fuel are converted by a chemical reaction into their basic and non-polluting forms, nitrogen and water. A typical SCR system uses an amount of AUS32 equivalent to approximately 3 to 5% of the vehicle's fuel consumption.
